Supertags.ca was established as a division of Columbia Awards, a Canadian, family-owned business founded in 1984 by Ed Korbyl. Columbia Awards quickly became known for high-quality awards, trophies, and engraving services, distinguished by a commitment to innovation and craftsmanship.

In 1986, Korbyl introduced the first laser engraver in Western Canada, a groundbreaking step that led to his collaboration with the Canadian Olympic Committee to engrave sport motifs on the wooden handles of the 1988 Winter Olympic torch.

Over the years, Columbia Awards earned national recognition as a leader in laser engraving, sharing industry knowledge through publications such as Awards and Engraving magazine. This expertise expanded into the Canadian funeral industry, supplying memorial plates, engraving services, and identification products.
